Hello fellow Vault Hunters!
The first one, where you are trying to figure out who the murderer is, was quite good, and I'm confident in my process for accusation. However, for the second one, the "Truxican Standoff" one, I was siginificantly less sure about my answer.
The game suggested that I chose correctly, but I was wondering if anyone else chose differently and was also told they were correct. I can get into the reasoning for this later at work now Any insight on this would be great! I wanna hear your thought process! I went with the guy spouting about human consciousness. Did he really??
How did I miss that Well, since that's who I chose, I guess it all worked out. Apparently I overthink things. The standoff can be solved logically. If Jim is the one telling the truth, then O'Cantrell's claim that Sam is lying which is a lie means that she is actually telling the truth. This is a contradiction, since we are under the assumption that everyone except Jim is lying, and Sam cannot be simultaneously telling the truth and lying. Notice that in every other case, Jim's claim of "it wasn't me" implicates himself when he is one of the liars.
Having O'Cantrell being the truthful one is the only case without a contradiction. I thought the murder quest was nonsense. Each criterion had at least two candidates, and even the "right" answer felt very shaky because you were missing the most important evidence: a bullet wound or bandage on one of the suspects.
I guess they tried to represent this with shield damage? But then, that goes against what the game teaches you about shields - that they regenerate to full in seconds. But that's not how shields work in the game, either. Moxxi shot him through his shield -- implication: shield present, and health damage. Zed healed him -- implication: shield present, and no health damage. Victim died to single bullet -- implication: murder weapon uses high-damage bullets.

So, we have to select a shielded, fully healed suspect, who is carrying a high-damage bullet-firing gun sniper rifle. There's only one who fits all three of those ! If I recall correctly, there are two with shields, and one of those is carrying a rocket launcher, which doesn't fire bullets.
The other guns present are an assault rifle and an SMGboth of which would probably require multiple bullets to kill the victim.
EDIT - I went back and looked again, and it appears that the other two guns are pistols, not the two I thought I remembered. I remember for BFF's I couldn't think of who it was as what they said confused me So I shot the ground inbetween them with a rocket launcher. Didn't want to miss, after all. I used the same logic for the skyrim dark brotherhood initiation.

Three possibilities, it has to be one of them right? So why take chances What was the result? Were you able to turn in the quest? I thought you were supposed to question the suspects and accidentally accused the first one. Then another guy ran off shouting he was free. After I accused the murderer, he confessed, saying something to the effect of "I would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for you meddling kids" and then the sheriff shot him. I got the blue pistol called Law and completed the quest.
The other three walked of nonchalantly. Wait, there are correct answers to those? My friends just offed a completely random person and we completed both quests no problem From what I gathered, it is possible to get the wrong answer to the first murderer quest, but I was unsure if you could get the wrong answer to the second thief quest.
In both cases, you can still turn in the the quest to complete it and get the reward.
As far as I can tell, getting it right is just for your own satisfaction! My friend did that while I was trying to figure it out and they all shot each other It damages enemies when you land on them, and the 4 of them shoot each other and all die as soon as you damage one of them.
I don't know what happened when I played, but when I tried to shoot one, one of them yelled: "Screw this! I forgot what they all had said and Jim was the one with the least health, so I shot him.

This is exactly what I was looking for! As for the murder quest, we have three pieces of information: Moxxi shot him through his shield -- implication: shield present, and health damage Zed healed him -- implication: shield present, and no health damage Victim died to single bullet -- implication: murder weapon uses high-damage bullets So, we have to select a shielded, fully healed suspect, who is carrying a high-damage bullet-firing gun sniper rifle There's only one who fits all three of those !
That was my thought process.
What happens if you get it right? Lieutenant Colonel Space Helicopters.
I jumped on one of their he and they all died. No clue why. I just shot a rocket into the crowd and it only killed jim lol.
